Listening for the Spirit: A Pentecost Journey with St. Brendan - Virtual
With Rev. Sharon Seyfarth Garner
May 16, 2027
What if the Spirit is speaking in ways we have not yet learned to hear? What might happen if we, too, made space to listen for the Spirit…in different languages, in the songs of creation, in silence, and perhaps in other places we might least expect? What if Pentecost is not only a story about what happened long ago, but an invitation to listen more deeply today?
This year, Pentecost and the Feast of St. Brendan the Navigator fall on the same day, offering us a beautiful invitation to explore the Holy Spirit in unexpected ways. On Pentecost, the Disciples encountered the Spirit through tongues of fire and discovered the surprising gift of understanding. Centuries later, during St. Brendan’s legendary seven-year voyage across the seas, he and his fellow monks are said to have spent each Pentecost on an island where the birds sang the Psalms. Another unexpected encounter with the Spirit. Another invitation to listen.
Join us for a contemplative evening of gentle listening and reflection as we explore the themes of Pentecost and St. Brendan’s journey. Through story, silence, and shared reflection, we will consider how these ancient encounters with the Spirit might awaken fresh insight, wonder, and vitality in our own faith journeys.
