Lenten Conversations: The Lenten Wilderness: Solitude & Simplicity - Virtual Program
With Colleen Mollica
March 2, 2027
During Lent, we are invited to voluntarily enter the spiritual desert to strip away the excess of modern life. Today’s loud, consumer-driven culture requires constant distractions to keep our attention. The spiritual desert drastically lowers the prevailing noise of our lives, attuning our spiritual ears to hear the gentle, subtle voice of God. Just as Jesus was driven by the Spirit into the wilderness to prepare for his ministry, our 40-day Lenten fast mimics this intentional retreat, choosing temporary physical scarcity to build deep spiritual strength.
In this program, we will reframe the barren landscape not as a place of punishment or deprivation, but as a space for insight and direct connection with God. Through discussion, journaling, and guided silent meditation, we will have an opportunity for self-examination and to shift our dependence on physical comforts to trust the subtle voice of God.
