A Contemplative-Prophetic Approach to Food - Virtual
With James Robinson, Ph.D.
May 24 - August 2, 2027
Some “live to eat” while others “eat to live”, but regardless of where you fall on the spectrum, do you consider the experience of nourishing our bodies routine or ritual? In a society where food waste is exponential, the convenience of one-time-use packaging, containers, and utensils is rarely considered, and the majority of what we eat from the grocery store is not locally or responsibly sourced; let us begin the ecological conversation to raise awareness and work towards justice for all of creation impacted by Factory Farming and an industrial food web.
Join us as we work our way through Dr. James Robinson’s Beyond Factory Farming: A Contemplative-Prophetic Approach to Food throughout the summer months, when regionally, fresh and local goods are plentiful. We invite you to reflect on your willingness to question ethical sources of animal products or consider a commitment to a plant-based diet. We will challenge society’s routine practices deeply rooted in consumerism and discuss the harmful consequences of prioritizing convenience over health and dignity.
In this opportunity to connect with the global Meatless Monday movement, we will reflect on one of the five parts of the book and engage in resource-sharing discussions. Each session will be an opportunity to submit a new or favorite recipe to the group and together create a menu for the Farm-to-Table style Luncheon that will conclude this program.
Dr. Robinson will join us on Saturday, August 7, 2027, to discuss Beyond Factory Farming from conception to publication, answer questions, and share his own reflections and methods for transforming the routine of eating into a ritual of gratitude and reciprocity.
